Appointment of New General Manager
JASPER, 02 May 2023 – Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge is pleased to announce the appointment of Garrett Turta as General Manager, effective May 1, 2023. Turta joins Fairmont’s western mountain region in Canada from his most recent position as general manager of Fairmont Hotel Macdonald, where he held a memorable tenure for the past 10 years.
Turta’s 26 years with Fairmont Hotels & Resorts also include general manager postings at Fairmont St. Andrews in Scotland and Fairmont Algonquin in New Brunswick. He is no stranger to the Canadian Rockies as his celebrated tenure with the company also includes two years at Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise as director of rooms from 2006-2008.
A strong connection to the destination and local community are two of Turta’s key focuses. During his time in Edmonton, Turta served on multiple boards including the Edmonton Destination Marketing Hotels, Downtown Business Association, Alberta Hotel and Lodging Association, Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT) Advisory Council, and Explore Edmonton (Sustainable Tourism). He is also a member of Skål International and Chaîne des Rôtisseurs – and through his engaging commitment to tourism and hospitality has been awarded the Skål Jim Engel Tourism Award for Outstanding Achievement in Tourism in 2020 and the Le Clef D’or Award for General Manager of the Year in 2018.
Jasper has always held a special place in Turta’s heart and he is enthusiastic about his Canadian Rockies return. “I am so excited to start my new role and continue the great work that has been done to curate and promote such special memories for guests at Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge,” says Turta. “The next chapter for the resort is such an exciting one on the development front, and I look forward to being part of the team that takes the property and destination to the next level.”
Turta will assume the general manager position at Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge following Marc Wawrin. Wawrin joined the resort as general manager in 2018, and successfully led the team through the COVID-19 pandemic. He also actively participated in the extensive planning and execution of $54 million of capital investments into the resort, as well as being involved in the planning of future multi-million dollar capital projects to be announced.
